Education in Contemporary Performing Street Arts: Possible Curricula and Teaching Methods
We are pleased to announce the first European Federation for Education and Training in Street Arts (EFETSA) online conference for experts, focusing on the education in contemporary performing street arts, where we will discover and share different educational methods and practices and what we can learn from each other’s practices and approaches. We hope you will be joining us for the conference to spark a fruitful discussion on what and how teaching Contemporary Performing Street Arts (CPSA) can improve artistic level of preforming in public space.
TOPICS
- Structured educational programs for CPSA (pedagogy of CPSA)
- Case studies of good practices in teaching/learning in CSPA
- Teaching the teachers of CPSA
- Academic studies and research in CPSA and related practices
TYPES OF PRESENTATION
- Keynote speech for strong points, examples or practices (max 30 minutes)
- Oral/live presentation for projects able to spread good practices (max 10 minutes)
- Written contribution/paper (max 10 pages)
- Digital poster – one page presentation of concrete practices (max 1 page)

DETAILS
- All contribution propositions should be presented to the Expert Comitte in a form of a half page abstract (min 600 max. 1500 characters with spaces). Abstract template enclosed. Due date: 24. January 2021.
- All contributors will be asked to present a written document on their topic/theme.
- The document template will be supplied and the written document should not be longer that 6 A4 pages (11000 characters with spaces) or 10 pages if the document includes visual material (photographs, illustration, graphs…).This is not an academic conference; it is an open discussion about the themes and topics of education in CPSA, aiming to share and spread methodologies, case studies and good practices. However, abstracts will be evaluated by the members of the Expert Committee, based on effective and accurate communication of a practice/subject area/topic, methodology, relevance, innovation, reason for or value of the presentation and impact (educational, social, spatial, …).
- Expert Comitte decisions will be made by 16. February 2021.
- Keynote speeches will be selected based on submitted abstracts with a high importance or as lecturers invited by the Expert Committee.
- Only two submitted abstracts per same first author are permitted. At least one author (presenting author) per contribution needs to participate at the online conference.
- Upon confirmation, all contributions must be submitted as full papers or posters by the 9. March 2021.
- If the document includes links to external sources, these should be reachable free of charge.
- Written documents with no intention of oral presentation can also be of older date and/or written for some other occasion. If author rights allow it, they could also have been published prior to this instance.
- Digital Posters should be presented in one slide only .ppt format (size 594 x 841 mm, portrait) and .pdf file. The pdf format should be generated from .ppt file with the in portrait format. Template enclosed.
*** All written documents (in .docx format) and digital posters (in .ppt and .pdf format) should be sent to tea.anamonro@gmail.com. The deadline for submission is 9. March 2021.
*** Selected abstracts, written contributions, digital posters and possible other formats will be included in a bulk .pdf file that will be sent to all registered participants prior to the beginning of conference.

EXPERT COMMITTEE
- Goro Osojnik (president, SLOVENIA): Goro Osojnik is actor, street theatre author, cultural manager and educator with experience in working in West (UK, NL and France) and in East (Ukraine, Turkey). Artistic leader of Ana Monro Theatre (1994 →), creator and artistic director of international street theatre festival Ana Desetnica (1998→) and Ana Mraz (2000→), headmaster and mentor on urban school for contemporary performing street arts ŠUGLA (2007→), co-founder and member of Circostrada (2003→), EFETSA (2015→). Initiator of the URBANA LJUBLJANA international award of excellence for street theatre (2017 →)
- Ferran Orobitg (member, SPAIN): Ferran Orobitg is street theatre artist. In 2003 he co-founded with Ivan Alcoba the Fadunito company and performed in more than 30 countries since. He took the 2nd promotion of FAI AR’, (Advance and itinerant street arts formation, 2007-2009), based in Marseille, France. Mentoring different street theatre programs for Young in Slovenia and Glasgow. Since 2018 street theatre mentor in Aula de teatre de Lleida, and part of the formation commission of PATEA (Spanish performing street arts professionals association).Together with Kruma he co-founded the school of theatre SPASA (Street performing Arts Summer Academmy), 2 intensive weeks of professional formation on performing street arts in summertime in Catalonia starting next year 2021.
- John Lee, MA, MSc, MBA, (member, UNITED KINGDOM): John Lee is a Visiting Fellow in Knowledge Exchange in the Department of Performing Arts (2019-21) at the University of Winchester following a career as an international performer and director, making and performing work in 37 countries throughout the world. He was Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Street Arts at the University of Winchester from 2008-17, a unique degree programme that was shortlisted for Excellence and Innovation in the Times Higher Education Awards in the UK on two occasions. As an academic and practitioner, his interests are in artistic practices and dramaturgy in Public Spaces, Comedy and Popular Performance, Site Specific Performance, Place Making. He is the co-director and creative director of FUSE an outdoor arts company currently commissioned to creative large festivals - Somerfest, Bridgwater Quayside Festival and Dunster-by-Candlelight that attract audiences in excess of 60,000 a year. This company has been awarded Arts Council (ACE) funding for the last six years. He has trained with Jacque Lecoq (1984), Keith Johnstone (1985/1996), Improbable Theatre (1997) Carlo Boso (1984 and 1986) (Commedia dell’arte), Phillippe Gaulier (1984-86) (Clown, Buffon, Neutral Mask, Le Jeu) and Theatre de Complicite (1984).
- Sergi Estebanell (member, SPAIN): Sergi Estebanell is an artist who researches street theater, urban intervention, comedy and art for transformation. He is founder of www.moneyforfree.cat and driver of www.streetartsmanifesto.org. Artistic director of “Hospital clowns from Catalonia”: www.pallapupas.org, co-founder of the Festival of Contemporary Creation of Barcelona "ESCENA POBLENOU" // www.escenapoblenou.com // and also to the Compania www.kamchatka.cat . Artistic director, performer and coaching of: www.wanderingorquestra // www.fadunito.com // www.mesapara2.cat // www.theatre-organic // www.electrico28.com. He gives workshops of clown, street theater and “impossibles interventions” in urban space.
- Bruno Costa (member, PORTUGAL): Bruno Costa is Co-director of Bússola, a Portuguese organization with a mission to support strategic development of artistic and cultural projects. He has a master’s degree in management for the Creative Industries with academic research based on the international mobility of artists, with a special focus on outdoor arts. Currently he is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies, with research on the European cultural identity. Over the last years he has collaborated in several projects as cultural development strategy and artistic programming consultant, in Portugal and abroad. As artistic director/consultant works with special focus on outdoor and unconventional places, highlighting the new dramaturgies for circus arts and cross-disciplinary creative projects.
- Tea Vidmar (conference coordinator, SLOVENIA): Tea Vidmar is a university graduate in cultural studies, self-employed in culture as a pedagogue and performer. She creates various individual and group projects in the field of street theater, musical theater and musical improvisation. From 2011 she worked as Head of education of ŠUGLA (School of Contemporary Performing and Street Arts. Since 2013 she has been teaching street theater techniques within various programs for young people and for professional pedagogical workers. She specializes in teaching the use of voice in public space and developing the theatricality of voice. In 2015, she was part of the establishment of the European Association for Education and Training in Street Art (EFETSA) and in the same year co-organized EFETSA Practicum I. Since 2018 she has been working within Ana Monro Theater as a project manager for international cooperation. So far she has implemented 3 youth projects. In 2019, she founded the GPZ theater choir and created her own vocal street performance Oops! and won the international award of excellence URBana LJUBLJana 2020 with it.
PAPER (E-BOOK) PUBLICATIONS
- All written contributions and posters will be published in an online publication as an electronic book with ISBN number. The video recording of the conference will be made public and free for use.
LANGUAGE
- The language of the conference is English. Also all written and spoken contributions on the conference should be in English.
